I’ve started research on my next short story set in mid-19th century Oaxaca and tentatively titled “Painted Sea.” It is a reinterpretation of the legend of the Mulata de Cordoba, which originally takes place in either Veracruz or Mexico City (depending on which version you’ve heard) during the time of the Inquisition.
